Overview
With the new Endeavour, Ford is back in the race and trying to make a mark again in the buyer's mind. Back then in 2003, this utility vehicle was well received until the other sizable offerings started dominating the segment. Now, with some interesting upgrades and transformation here and there, this huge machine does look promising. Talking about this specific Ford Endeavour 2.2 Trend MT 4X2 trim, it features a TDCi engine that is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission gear box. Its interiors look quite plush with leather upholstered seats, chrome accentuation, and high quality materials. On the safety front too, it fares well with attributes like electronic stability program, ABS, and front seat belt reminders to name a few.
Exterior
Muscular, aggressive and imposing are what defines this new model. The overall design and style evolved with time thus, making it one of the best looking SUVs in the segment. In the front profile, it is the chrome accentuated radiator grille which gets the spot light. Surrounding this are two projector headlamps that come along with turn indicators. Adding to the style is the rectangular shaped fog lamps and silver finished skid plates, which sits on the lower bumper. On the sides, there is a side stepper, turn indicators on door mirrors and roof rails with silver finish. The wheel arches are stylish and well built. But the space between these arches and 265/60 R18 sized tyres, makes the latter look a bit undersized. The rear facet too looks stunning with an integrated spoiler above the windscreen, while the thick chrome strip on the protruding tail gate increases its appeal further. Furthermore, the wrap around tail lamps and bumper with silver skid plates gives a complete look to its rear end.
Interior
The automaker has not just focused on ample space, but worked on its interior styling too, which is simply elegant. The quality of materials is A-1, while the cabin flaunts a contemporary theme design. Bucket seats are present at front, the second row seat is sliding and reclining as well. Meanwhile, the third row seat can be folded completely to make space for additional boot. Storage spaces in this variant include cup holders, lockable glove box with illumination and front center armrest with storage compartment. The dashboard looks quite sophisticated with aspects like a multi information display, leather wrapped gear knob and steering wheel. The driver can adjust the seat in eight different ways to suit to the driving position. A dual zone automatic air conditioner is on the offer with climate control. Not only in the cockpit, but its air vents are positioned on the ceiling also in the second and third rows to raise the comfort levels further. To add to the entertainment quotient, there is an advanced infotainment system with TFT touch screen display. It includes SYNC with voice control and supports Bluetooth connectivity as well. Other comfort giving attributes in this version include adjustable speed limiter, steering mounted with audio controls, power windows with driver side anti pinch function, as well as adjustable outside mirrors.
Performance
Diesel:
This base level variant carries a 2.2-litre diesel engine beneath its bonnet, which is capable of pulling forward this machine with ease. It makes a peak power of 157.7bhp at 3200rpm and delivers torque of 385Nm that ranges between 1600 to 2500rpm. Compared to Toyota Fortuner, both the power and torque output of this SUV is quite good. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission gear box, engine power is transferred to its front wheels. The manufacturer claims it to return a maximum mileage of around 14.12 Kmpl, which is much better than what its rivals offer.
Ride & Handling
On its front axle, an independent coil spring is assembled, while the rear one also gets Watts linkage coil spring. Both the axles are furthermore added with anti roll bars to boost the mechanism. This suspension system is smooth and helps in keeping the massive vehicle balanced. Handling and maneuverability is at the best as the power steering wheel allows you to steer through easily in any condition. On the other hand, it comes fitted with all four disc brakes that ensure short stopping distances. Anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution are also on the offer that further takes its performance to the next level.
Safety
Abundant safety attributes in this base range, is certainly an add-on to this SUV. The dual front airbags are one of the significant aspects it carries. Offered as standard are electronic stability program, traction control system and hill launch assist, which gives better drive control. Engine immobilizer prevents it from theft, while it gets driver and passenger seat belts with front pretensioners and reminders as well. Rear view camera with display on center screen also acts as a safety element as it aids in easy parking and keeping track of the vehicles behind.
Verdict
For a base variant, this price tag will definitely fall heavy on the buyer's pockets. But then again, it looks just fair considering the first rate features it carries and the level of comfort it offers.
