The Volkswagen Polo GT TSI comes with an in-line 4-cylinder 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch) gearbox. The 1.2-litre turbocharged engine churns out 105 PS of power and 175Nm of torque, making it the most powerful petrol Polo in the Indian market. Volkswagen claims that the Polo GT TSI has a fuel efficiency of 17.21kmpl with a fuel tank of 45 litres. It produces 30PS more power and 65Nm of more torque than the standard Polo which is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine.
The Polo GT TSI has similar dimensions and interiors as the standard Volkswagen Polo. However, apart from the powerful engine, there are many other cosmetic changes that set it apart. It can be distinguished from the standard Polo with the help of the GT TSI badge on the rear and decals on the rear panels. It also has a GT badge on the front grille.
When it comes to interiors, the first difference you notice is the 7-speed automatic gearbox. It has a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake. It also has a different fabric upholstery which Volkswagen calls Milan' Titanschwarz fabric upholstery.
The Polo GT TSI is priced at Rs 9.22 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi, as of 5 May, 2017) and comes with features like automatic climate control, ambient lighting, all aluminium pedals, a flat-bottom steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels, GT garnish on the doorstep, driver-side dead pedal, rear parking sensors, cooled glovebox, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs and cruise control.
It also has a multi-information display in the instrument cluster that shows information like travelling time, distance travelled, digital speed, average speed and fuel efficiency. The Polo is also one of the safest hatchbacks in the country and the GT TSI comes with safety features like dual airbags, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability program (ESP) and Hill-Hold control. Its primary rivals are the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and the Fiat Abarth Punto.
