Toyota has been ailing in the hatchback segment and there is no doubt about that. However, company?s approach towards Etios Liva has been drastically changed and that is clearly evident from the latest model. The hatchback is based on the Etios sedan and shares numerous things with the sibling. I have been driving dual toned Etios Liva for the past 1 year and I can say that it?s a premium hatchback with a refined and long life engine along with the smooth transmission. Since the time I purchased the car, I don?t have to face any problem while, its maintenance cost is also affordable with Toyota?s service in every nook and corner of the country. Though, the car has some cons as well as low torque and mileage that are quite disappointing. Its inner built quality can also be improved otherwise Etios Liva hatchback is one of the best family cars out there. As I said before the car carries most of its features from the Etios sedan. The new Liva looks sharper with the restyled radiator grille and newly designed bumper, its front fa�ade, and the dual paint job make the car look exceptional. The rear profile gets redesigned bumper with few additional curves while the tailgate remains the same. Likewise the sedan version, Etios Liva hatchback is quite spacious, the car provides best-in-class cabin space that ensures better shoulder, knee, and headroom. The AC comes with multi-directional vents while its analog speedometer and digital tachometer get graphic illumination. Boot space is quite good at about 251L. The effort in the safety department must be appreciated as the company offers ABS with EBD, dual airbags and ISOFIX child seats as standard across the range. Other features are reverse parking sensors, front pre-tensioners force limiter seatbelts, and new central locking system. Currently, I am driving the 1.4L diesel powered Etios that is able to produce 67bhp and maximum torque of 170Nm. Though it?s quite underpowered, it won?t get noticed in city driving. Overall, Toyota Etios Liva is a reliable hatch with a few downsides. At this price, one should also consider new Maruti Swift.
