I was looking for a car for around 15 lakh rupees. My first priority was the performance and then the design of the car. The rear disc brakes were also essential ( I like the view of the discs through the wheel) which the Mahindra XUV 500 has. The direct rival of the XUV 500, which is the Tata Harrier doesn't have the rear disc brakes. Even the much expensive Innova Crysta doesn't have rear discs. The XUV 500 is also easy to drive ( requires fewer gear changes while driving due to the high torque available even at the low revs. Despite the good performance, the XUV 500 is also very frugal. An average mileage of above 13 kmpl is easily manageable. The large window area of the car also makes the cabin airier. Driving the car is very engaging due to the perfect gear ratios ( we could get most of the fun out of the 3rd gear). We can feel the turbo and a kick in the pants feel ( which makes the passengers a bit scary). The Mahindra XUV 500 is a great car for long drives. I've done multiple long drives of above 800 km in a single stretch without a hustle. My car is now close to the 1 lakh km milestone and is still running really well. Although the service and maintenance, costs are bit on the higher side. It cost me above 25000 rupees for the 80k and 90k km services. But the spare parts are easily available and the quality of the service is also good. Cons: value for money, features, easy to drive and more. The downsides of the car are the suspension. The ride becomes bouncy at higher speeds and there is a considerable amount of body roll on offer. Also the plastic quality in that back of the front seats, on the bottom of the doors and on the sides of the centre console is poor. But these all doest make a deal-breaker. Suspension, plastic quality, cost of maintenance are some of the cons.
