- Affordable, peppy car which can out-smart even hot-hatchesBuying a small car in India sounds like an easy task, with numerous offerings at competitive price points, but at least in our case, it wasn't. Our main concern was to find a car which could easily fit in our main gate, which is a couple inches more than five feet. Added to our woes, the narrowed down options didn't have capable engines, as all alternatives boasted of 800cc mills only. And then, we zeroed upon Chevrolet Spark. Initially, I was not too keen, because Spark has been in the Indian market from quite a long time, but has never made its presence felt, so far as competition was, or is concerned. But all perceptions really changed. To begin with, Spark has a cute and peppy design, with a changed front face, now sporting typical Chevrolet fascia, i.e. honeycomb grille split by the body-colored bar, and top spec LT model also sports new fog lamp housing, similar to that of Swift. This change added character to the front. The side profile and rear are more or less similar to older versions. The rear bumper now has black plastic finish at the center, which I assume was done to keep the paint intact in case of a rear impact, as rear ends of hatches, being low slung are more prone to scratches owing to the vehicles following you. Back also sports of a spoiler on top of the glass in top spec LT model. LT model also gets roof rails, to increase the peppy appeal. On the inside, Spark sports of a decent interior, the seats, and dash now coming in the beige shade, probably to make the cabin look bigger. The speedometer is placed in the center of the dashboard, containing a dial speedometer, and digital odometer, trip meter, and tachometer. I must add here, that if you are too keen on checking RPM for a gear change, the tachometer of Spark needs some practice t look at. Also, Digital Engine temperature gauge and Digital fuel gauge were present, along with usual warning signs and indicators. Spark has very smartly integrated everything neatly in a rather small instrument pod. One thing which I didn't like was the steering wheel. It is a two spoke unit, in which both the spokes look like the diameter of the steering. Too bland for a peppy looking car. Also, like German and American cars, the control arm for headlamp and indicator is on left, whereas that of the wiper is on the right. One might need some practice here as well if switching from Maruti and Hyundais. The central console also had rotary A/C vents, coupled with old school dials for controlling, along with a proportionate looking music player. Speakers do a decent job as well. It's just that you are reminded every single time that they are just doing their job, whenever you wish to push limits of the music player. Top model (LT) also comes with power windows for all windows, rear defogger, ORVM on both doors, that can be manually adjusted from inside the cabin. What I liked the most was that Spark has too many cubby holes in the center console, that one can fit odds and ends. The glove box is a bit small and could have been made bigger by eliminating the tray that sits below it. Front doors also have pockets on both driver and passenger side, that can easily carry 500ml bottle. In front of gear, are two glass holders, serving their purpose well, but are a bit out of reach. One thing that amazed me though, was the cushioning of the seat and leg space. Usually, cars of this category have back seats with much less cushioning that one can presume sitting on a bench. But Spark has proportionate front and back seats to support back and thighs. Leg space at the rear is also decent, as one can sit without scraping his knees unless the person is above six feet. Also, three people can easily sit for short distances, with a little bit of shoulder scraping. What amazed me is the performance, owing to the four cylinders, 995cc motor sitting under the hood. It is quick to launch, it is nimble on its feet, and because of its compact dimensions, it is very agile, so far as day-to-day commuting is concerned. It can zoom its way past the traffic easily, it can take superb U-turns, and can easily beat the competition in straight line acceleration. The motor, in fact, amazed me when I took it to Nainital. Never, for once, the engine felt under-powered while climbing the hills, and I never felt the urge to shift it to first gear to gain momentum. It easily climbed on in second and third gear, hitting corners and coming out like a pro. It also never is out of power, even with AC on. Sailing it on highways is as much fun, as while commuting in traffic. It's a shame that Chevrolet guys are not focusing on it because a major facelift done to Spark can put them back in business. The Spark, in short, is hot to handle the peppy machine, which can put the more expensive hatches to shame on occasions; a decent small car to own.और देखेंWas th आईएस review helpful?हाँनहीं
- A very nice carChevrolet spark a small car, its very practical in city use, it takes little space to get parked, where the space is tight in the city this can easily parked. this car is good on highways but till 80kmph. it gives fuel consumption 19 0n highways with ac.it has very clear lights when we are doing reverse parking.seating position is good, its easy to get in and out for average height people.its steering gives the feeling of a classic car. its good for four adult with moderate luggage and very good for city use, Highly recommended to every one who wants to purchase hatchback in this budget, super performer.best inside space in this class, looks small from out but ample space inside, once u fold the back seat and put a mattress it will become much larger, i have done this so many time in long drive and travel as many as 7 people. One of the lowest priced new vehicles one can purchase, yet it doesn't look like one or perform like one. I had MINI Cooper for 12 years and loved everything about it EXCEPT its fuel economy (much less than people think), propensity to break down, and cost of repairs (it's made by BMW). In less than a month I have fallen in love with my Chevrolet Spark. It simply does not feel like an economy car and it looks dashing! The engine is so quiet I have had to check a few times to see if it was still running (and it always was)! It is nimble to maneuver, cruises at 55-70 mph smoothly with no strain, the front seat was comfortable even for a 6 foot +, 300-pound man.और देखेंWas th आईएस review helpful?हाँनहीं
- Its a ChevyVery good car at a fair price. Ran almost 50,000 km & is still smooth as new. Interior is blessed with American style, of course, it's a Chevy along with bottle holder on both Driver's and pillion driver's gate. Provided with a powerful engine of 1200cc is a good choice among the range competitors such as Alto.और देखेंWas th आईएस review helpful?हाँनहीं
- Great car by ChevyTo begin with, let me make it clear that I am not a Doctor but I have maintained and driven my car with care. 12th August 2009 was the happy day for me when the first car of my entire family lineage was delivered. The Maruti Alto was our original pick (due to its ultra-low-cost) but one look at its interior color and space made us think otherwise. Being 6-feet tall meant that anyone sitting behind me as the driver would have a crunch of time. Chevrolet was the showroom a couple of miles away, so we decided to go there and BAMM!! the beige interior just clicked. Although it was about INR 60K more than our budget, we just went for it. We had a wonderful experience with the Chevy team and felt at home (in the showroom). The car came, in all its white glory being the apple of my eye and the envy of my neighbors. Back then, there were not many flashy cars on the roads. All of us in the family were pretty inexperienced when it came to owning a car, so things like mileage, road noise, seat comfort, etc. were all over-looked. As I grew up with the car, I started to notice how much more comfortable the ride was when compared to the WagonR (owned by a friend). Although the interior space couldn't rival the tall-boy, the interior quality sure did. It felt like a step-up when it came to the interiors and by some means the exterior as well (I was always a fan of those candy-like red tail lights). Ahh but then the warranty ended and boy did it take a turn for the worst. The marketing gimmick was a three-year, no service charge warranty? which they did deliver. What they failed to mention was that the dividends you earned during those three years were going to leave your pockets at warp speeds. It started with the AC. The AC unit in my Spark was so bad that I got it fixed 3 times before just giving up and getting the whole thing swapped for a new unit. It cost a bomb! The power window system is pretty bad as well. Thankfully I had manual rear windows which I now feel proud of. (FYI: The driver side power window failed and I haven't repaired it in over a year.) That's how frustrated I am with its electrical system. The one thing that hasn?t let me down is the engine performance. It is strong and linear although it is a puny 1 liter. It's not as noisy as the other 1 liter units I've driven and has never given me any issue whatsoever. The ride quality is still plush, comparable to some of today's similarly priced rivals. Its been seven years running and being driven around for about 15K Kms, I fell I have under-used my car (part of it being a very competitive on-road parking). But as much as I have used it, I feel it was fine-old fella. The joy of your first car can never be replicated or repeated (unless your second or the tenth car is a Lambo) but then I feel I'm ready to depart from my friend. I guess it makes sense to stick to industry norms and go with the best selling brands in the business. After all, there is a reason why Maruti is no.1. The after-sales service was not up to my expectations and nor was my car.और देखेंWas th आईएस review helpful?हाँनहीं
- What started as a spark did sparkle! We always love when the underdog overcomes all the hurdles and reaches the finish line. In fact, we lift the gleaming trophy with them, in our minds! Such was my feeling when my "Sparkie" arrived at our home after winning the hearts of everyone in my family. My wife bowled over by the higher stance & plush ride (for its price), mom knocked off by the roomy cabin & practicality and finally, the 'not-so-forgiving' dad praising his simple-n-neat interiors. Needless to say, I was the first wicket to go...ha ha. Heck, even my friends who looked down at first started realizing the value-for-money soon after.....the compact yet city friendly nature, 1-liter engine, decent mileage, and the space factor. All those add-ons (read music system, 4-door power windows, leather seat cover, and remote keys) were great fits. Well, who isn't excited at the beginning...everyone is. But, let me tell you, things went well after that too...actually pretty well. Nope, I am not exaggerating...there's no need to. I know Chevy doesn't sell a gazillion copies of it each month but my long search-n-research for car purchase did pay off. Having driven nearly 20,000 kilometers, I now can say that this commuter is worth it... FOR ME; I am not the one wanting any bragging rights for owning resale champs. Actually, there is no meaning in celebrating something after it has left you. The fact is, it should make you happier and you should cherish it for that. My adoration for his engine refinement and wonderful suspension would literally outlive him! I have enjoyed those traits time and again. Now, not even the most upbeat films end without a villain. Here, there are a few. In their alphabetic order; after sales service, cabin cooling. mediocre at best, FE not in the teens I am waiting to see the coming of age, safety options ? not even optional, seating is for four unless you have a 5-member family who is all fan of skinny jeans (I will nominate you for Academy if you have). Not always can you shell these villains and bubble them in the air. At times, you just have to walk away, take a side step and move on in life. Being proactive, practical, calm (?those racing nerves), and driving safely can keep you away from them...far away. I have been able to and that's what keeps this ride a pleasant one. Not that the thought of villains won't pop up again but I have moved on and remind myself of the good things Sparkie has to offer. I am lying if I said I did not look over him these days. There are some shiny new guys on the road, now and then. And those guys also get the nicest makeover year over year. But he is nowhere near that the sad part is, he may not be given any more makeovers. That won't stop me from riding with him. At the end of the day, when I pull up the windows, turn on the music and unwind, I do it with ease; for, he soaks all the bumps on my way and makes room for a quiet ride home.और देखेंWas th आईएस review helpful?हाँनहीं
