India has never been a place for crossover until a decade back. And let me tell you that despite unavailability in the Indian market, I have always been fond of hatchback based crossovers. Though there were several players such VW Polo Cross and Toyota Etios cross in the market, I planned to choose the Hyundai i20 Active mainly for two reasons; killer looks and a plethora of features. The Korean auto giant launched its first crossover in the country back in the year 2015. The vehicle becomes a hit as it is bestowed with first-in-class features and fluidic 2.0 design philosophy. The new Hyundai i20 Active is mainly built to make every day ride a new adventure. You can say that the car is the enhanced version of Elite i20 hatchback. Challenging the likes such as Volkswagen Cross Polo and Etios Cross in the segment, i20 Active crossover is far more attractive and sporty in this space. And what makes it alluring is the aggressive front fascia with hexagonal radiator grille and projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The side features silver finish on the roof rails and black cladding on the wheel arches giving it a rugged appearance. At the rear, i20 Active looks different with the additions like new silver skid plate and reworked bumper. Interiors too, get the sporty and premium treatment as the outside with all-black colour theme and orange inserts adding to its appeal. The cabin is one of the best in segment that ensures ample shoulder room and comfortable seating. The blue-black theme in other versions looks funkier. The list of features includes multi-functional steering wheel, glove box with cooling function, keyless entry & go, push-button start, automatic climate control and rear AC vents among others. The car also comes equipped with smart large 7-inch touchscreen AVN system powered by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Mirror Link. The carmaker has also given ample safety features including ABS, 6 airbags, headlamp Escort function and Impact sensing door unlock. For me, Elite i20 is a capable product with rugged styling and full of comfort, all that helps it stand out from the crowd.
