Honda’s fifth-generation City sticks to the tried-and-tested formula. We reckon Honda should’ve used this opportunity to set a new benchmark in this segment. Hard, scratchy plastics feel out of place. Better plastic quality or even soft-touch materials would’ve helped the City deliver on a richer cabin experience. It could also do with some more features to match Hyundai’s Verna too. That said, it’s building upon the core strengths of the City. An improvement in rear seat space is a pleasant surprise. If you are looking for a car to be driven around in, the City makes for a solid choice. That’s also because the ride quality is now a whole lot better, filtering out road imperfections without making a racket. You may check out detailed comparison between new and old Honda City.

The new City is offered with 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol engine develops 121PS and 145Nm, the diesel makes 100PS and 200Nm. Honda offers the petrol variants with both a 6-speed MT and 7-step CVT whereas the diesel variants are offered with a 6-speed MT.

The Ciaz, despite its age, shows that it has a very sensible head on its shoulders. It offers plenty of space for the family and is ready to tackle all kinds of Indian roads. While it misses out on the wow factor, the Ciaz Alpha wins the size-to-price ratio by being around Rs 90k cheaper than the City V Petrol. However, comparing the lower variant of the City, which packs four airbags, with the Ciaz shows that the value card isn’t as strong either. The City isn’t perfect either, but it shows that it can deliver higher levels of practicality and premiumness than before and better its rivals too. It does so while maintaining prices similar to its predecessor! So if you are looking for an all-rounder for the family, the 5th generation Honda City will bear that scrutiny calmly and confidently. You may compare both the cars accordingly. Do take a test drive in order to get better clarity. Check out authorised dealership details.
